Dr Sharon Cooley is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist and lead audit clinician for the hospital. Her main clinical areas of interest are obstetric ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis, early pregnancy loss, recurrent pregnancy loss, maternal medicine and general obstetric care. She also runs a general gynaecology service.

She is the Clinical Lead for the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit and has a special interest in complicated pregnancies and pregnancy loss. Sharon is involved in ongoing research and audit in the Rotunda and has a number of major research projects currently underway in the area of maternal medicine. She has also collaborated with international research.
Sharon graduated from the National University of Ireland Galway in 1997 and has worked as a lecturer for Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland as well as an honorary lecturer for the University of Birmingham. She maintains an active role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and is an Honorary Lecturer for the Royal College of Surgeons.

She completed an award winning doctorate in clotting disorders in pregnancy and has received many academic awards at both national and international scientific meetings. She has trained nationally and internationally and returned to the Rotunda as assistant master in 2008.

Sharon is a member of the executive for the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Ireland and a member of the working party for the National Clinical Advisory Group, responsible for the development of national evidence based guidelines for obstetrics and gynaecology in Ireland.
She is married with three children.
