The Rotunda Private welcomes referrals for the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of male and female infertility, recurrent miscarriage and reproductive gynaecology.

This is a private service provided by specialist consultants with extensive experience in this field. Dr Rishi Roopnarinesingh and Dr Edgar Mocanu are our consultants and their specific areas of expertise are detailed below.

Edgar Mocanu - MRCOG

CONSULTANT IN OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGY

Consultant in obstetrics & gynaecology. Special interest in reproductive medicine
Dr Mocanu’s main interests are male and female infertility, the genetics of male infertility and reproductive surgery.
He was appointed as a consultant obstetrician & gynaecologist to the Rotunda in 2005. He holds infertility clinics in the main hospital and also in the Rotunda Private Clinics. He is involved with the practical and theoretical teaching of students attached to the Rotunda Hospital.
Dr Edgar Mocanu qualified in 1993 from Cluj-Napoca Medical University, Romania. He trained in general obstetrics and gynaecology in Cluj-Napoca, Romania and the Coombe Women’s Hospital, St. James’s Hospital, Rotunda Hospital and National Maternity Hospital in Ireland.
He holds a certificate of specialist training (CST) in obstetrics and gynaecology and is registered in the specialists register of the Medical Council. He is sub-specialty trained in reproductive medicine and surgery under the guidance of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists in London. His sub-specialty training was based at the HARI Unit where he worked with Professor Robert F Harrison.
As part of this training he also worked at the Mater Hospital, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Tallaght Hospital and the Coombe Women’s Hospital.

Rishi Roopnarinesingh – MD MRCOG FRCPI

Consultant in obstetrics & gynaecology
Dr Rishi Roopnarinesingh is a consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology. His special interest field is in reproductive medicine and he has worked with both Professor RF Harrison and Dr. Michael Darling at the Rotunda Hospital. He has been trained in the surgical management of female infertility using micro-surgical techniques and has visited centres in London and the United States to enhance the provision of this service at the Rotunda Hospital.
He has a wide range of experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology, laparoscopic surgery, colposcopy and peri-menopausal medicine.
He received his medical degree from the University of the West Indies in June 1993 and has trained in obstetrics and gynaecology in Trinidad (W.I.), Birmingham (UK) and Ireland.
He worked as assistant master at both the Rotunda Hospital and the National Maternity Hospital between 2003 and 2006. Dr Roopnarinesingh has been a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (UK) since May 1998 and was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Specialists Training in Ireland in 2004. He is also a member of both the Irish and British Fertility Societies and the European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (minimal access /'key-hole' surgery).
Dr Roopnarinesingh’s thesis was on hypertensive disorders in pregnancy (high blood pressure) and he has also co-authored a textbook on obstetrics. He has published other scientific papers in general obstetrics and gynaecology and subfertility.
He is married and has three children.

GPs who would like to refer patients for a fertility workup and therapy should forward a
referral letter to one of our consultants.

Please ensure that the letter specifies that you are seeking a private appointment for your
patient.

Patients looking for an appointment for a consultation, infertility investigations and treatments or reproductive/gynaecological surgery please use the contact details below to request a private appointment.

As this is a fee-paying service insurance cover is recommended.

To facilitate a meaningful discussion with one of our consultants, we recommend that the following investigations should be performed prior to your visit. These can be organised by your GP. Once you have taken these tests, bring the results with you.

Female:

  • Hormonal profile (Day 3,4 or 5 of cycle; FSH, LH, Oestradiol, TFT’s, Prolactin)
  • Mid-luteal phase progesterone level (If regular periods)
  • Rubella immunity (within the last 2 years)
  • Smear test (within last 3 years)
  • HSG, if access for test is possible

Male:

  • Semen analysis in an IVF unit laboratory close to your home.
