Professor Sean Daly qualified from Trinity College Dublin in 1988 and trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Ireland. He completed a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine in Philadelphia and practiced as a consultant there before returning home to take up the post of Master in The Coombe Hospital, Dublin in 1999. Following his term as Master he became Head of Maternal Fetal Medicine in the Coombe Hospital. In 2005 Sean was appointed to the teaching staff of Trinity College Dublin as a Full Clinical Professor.

He started and ran several important high risk pregnancy services, notably the multiple births service and a national service for the diagnosis and management of fetal congenital heart disease. He led the diabetic service in the Coombe Hospital for more than 20 years with Prof. Brendan Kinsley from the Mater Hospital. In 2014 Sean introduced a preterm birth prevention clinic and he has specific training in the management of women at risk of delivering early.

He has published widely in the areas of prenatal diagnosis, diabetes, twins, fetal growth and preterm birth. In 2021 Sean decided to seek a new challenge and was appointed Associate Clinical Director with responsabilty for maternity services in Cavan and Drogheda hospitals and a consultant in maternal fetal medicine in the Rotunda Hospital.
